Sarah Champion MP campaigns to protect postal workers
Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham is backing a piece of legislation which seeks to ban low-level letter boxes, and better protect postmen and women across the UK. This is in partnership with The Communications Workers Union (CWU).
Today, Champion supported a Ten-Minute Rule Bill in Parliament, which standardises the height of letterboxes in newbuilds. [1] This Bill would act as an effective ban on low-level post boxes in new builds, protecting postal workers from injury and trauma, and ensuring developers follow safe building standards.
Commenting, Sarah Champion MP said:
“The people who deliver our post every day, face real risks. We have evidence that low-level letter boxes increase the risk of dog bites, can cause back strain and serious injury.
Other countries have established mandatory height standards on letterboxes, so why can’t we? Our posties deserve as much.”
