“The Casey report confirms what many of us have feared for years; the appalling abuse of children that occurred in Rotherham was by no means unique.’

‘No one can say they are shocked by this report.  Child sexual exploitation by gangs, at scale and following a near identical pattern, has been exposed across the country for years. Had those in authority listened to the victims, this vile crime may have been dealt with before it became a national epidemic. The fact victims and survivors were ignored, belittled and even criminalised should be to all of our eternal shame.’

Sarah Champion MP urges the Government to provide more ‘Space to Grow’ under Labour’s planning reforms  

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, called on the Government to provide more ‘Space to Grow’ in this week’s Parliamentary debate on the Planning and Infrastructure Bill. 

As part of her campaign with the Royal Horticultural Society, National Allotment Society, Horticultural Trade Association and members of the National Community Garden Network, Champion urged the Government to adopt her legal change and provide more land for allotments and community gardens.

Sarah Champion MP Calls for New Rules to Protect Residents from Unwelcome Landfill Sites

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham expressed frustration that her amendment to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, which aimed to prevent unscrupulous developers from exploiting loopholes in planning legislation to by-pass scrutiny for landfill sites, was not selected for Parliamentary vote.

Sarah had tabled an amendment that would cause un-utilised planning permission for landfill sites to lapse should the site be dormant for more than 10 years.

Sarah Champion MP celebrates Labour’s ban on unfair bonuses for Yorkshire Water bosses

Sarah Champion, Member of Parliament for Rotherham, welcomes news that unfair bonuses have been banned with immediate effect for senior bosses at Yorkshire Water. 

Under these new rules, introduced with the landmark Water (Special Measures) Act 2025, companies including Yorkshire Water are not permitted to pay bonuses to water bosses that oversee poor environmental and customer outcomes.
